Miami has plenty of Oktoberfest parties at bars. This one is run by a cultural club on its own grounds. The American Czech-Slovak Cultural Club hosts its two-day Oktoberfest this weekend on what it calls 3.5 acres of historic land along Arch Creek, according to the club's ticket page.
When and where
The festival runs from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, according to the ticket page. The club's grounds are at 13325 Arch Creek Road, North Miami, FL 33181. Parking on site is free.
Tickets
General admission starts at $17.85, according to Greater Miami and Miami Beach's event listing. The ticket page lists several ticket types, with packages up to about $151. Refunds are not offered.
A VIP ticket includes admission, one Czech-Slovak meal, four beers or one pitcher, a pretzel, a shot, a dessert, reserved seating, express entry and a gift bag.
Groups that want a reserved table need to buy at least eight tickets. The club asks groups to reserve before Friday, Oct. 23, by emailing ACSCC@yahoo.com or calling 305-376-0603.
What to eat and drink
The menu leans Central European. Expect schnitzel, sausage plates, goulash, soft pretzels, kolache and apple strudel. Imported Czech and Slovak beer is poured in the beer garden.
New to the food? Schnitzel is a thin cutlet that is breaded and fried. Goulash is a slow-cooked beef stew seasoned with paprika. Kolache are soft pastries filled with fruit, poppy seed or sweet cheese. Strudel wraps apples and cinnamon in thin layers of dough.
Music and games
The International Polka Band is on the lineup, along with local bands on both days. Lawn games include cornhole and horseshoes. The tourism bureau's listing also mentions stein-holding and eating contests and costume competitions.
For kids
The festival is all ages. The kids zone has bounce houses and crafts.
Tips before you go
- Buy tickets online before you go, and double-check the day on your ticket. All sales are final.
- Groups of eight or more who want a reserved table should contact the club by Friday, Oct. 23.
- Both days have the same hours, noon to 11 p.m., so Sunday works if Saturday is booked.
- General admission covers all areas, music and contests, with food sold by vendors. The VIP ticket bundles a meal and beer. The organizer says prices go up closer to the event.
