Why work is happening here

The closures are part of Connecting Miami, the $866 million rebuild of I-395, State Road 836 and their links to I-95. FDOT and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency are partners on the project. The current target for finishing is late 2029.
One major change is a second level of State Road 836. It is designed to carry drivers toward the MacArthur Causeway without mixing with cars using local entrance and exit ramps. The existing roadway will keep serving those local connections.
The project also includes new concrete pavement on I-95 between NW 8th and NW 29th streets. An added northbound lane will take traffic coming from eastbound State Road 836. Drainage work is intended to help handle heavy rain and king tides, the season’s unusually high tides.
